Backend (Square + KDS) Information
Square Tabs & KDS Display Behavior
- No Master Tab Ticket in KDS
- The Kitchen Display System (KDS) does not show a single, consolidated “master” tab.
- Instead, each set of items added to a tab appears as a separate sub-ticket (e.g., 110.1, 110.2).
- Order Appearance
- If a tab starts with multiple items, it is labeled 110.1.
- Any later additions to the same tab create 110.2, 110.3, etc.
- The original tab number (Order 110) does not appear in KDS unless the tab is fully closed.
- Consolidated View
- KDS does not show a full, combined view of all items on an open tab.
- Once a tab is closed, it will display in Square Orders as the single full order number (no decimals).
- Payments & Timestamps
- Stores receive the full payment once the tab is closed.
- The timestamp displayed in Square reflects when the tab was opened, not when it was closed.
Square – “No Sale” Transactions:
- Not from Order With Flavor
- “No Sale” transactions appearing in reports are not generated by Order With Flavor.
- Order Source: Point of Sale
- These transactions list the order source as Point of Sale, meaning they originate from a Square Terminal or other Square hardware.
- Cause of $0.00 Amount
- This is likely caused when a user clicks “Review Sale” before adding any item or dollar amount.
Square Refund Behavior:
- No Item-Level Refunds on Open Tabs
- You cannot issue a refund for individual items while a tab is still open.
- Canceled Items Still Charged
- If an item is canceled during an open tab, the customer will still be charged for the full tab amount.
- Refunds Only After Tab Closure
- Refunds (full or partial) can only be processed after the tab is closed.
